Historic homeowners have to steward their properties if they are to survive for future generations to enjoy. With 6,500 square feet of building, being a green inn is critical to our stewardship. In 2012 Sandri Energy of Greenfield, Mass., under the Massachusetts Department of Energy (DOER) "High Performance Buildings Grant Program," replaced 3,000 gallons of heating oil per year with a computerized German-made wood pellet fired boiler at Centennial House without sacrificing period details. The result is gallons and gallons of delightful hot water for our guests, especially important during event weekends. Because we're a demonstration site for antique home owners, let us know if you'd like to see how the technology works, call Steve at 413-498-5921 to arrange a tour or just ask him to show you while you're here.
We incorporate as many "green" practices as we can through recycling, using environmentally-friendly cleaning products and guest amenities, and serving locally-grown food, including fruits and vegetables from our own garden in season.
